In Sunday school, our class has been
talking about service and using the gifts God has given us in service.
Now for the part where I tie it all together...quite a few of us know how to
cook and there are a few others that LOVE to cook. Given that, I am sure
we all have our dry spells where menu planning becomes a dreaded chore, the
thought of eating one more hamburger or fast food junk item is making your
stomach churn, or figuring out what groceries to buy turns into utter
"anxiety" (another topic covered in today's sermon - let go and let
GOD!). Well, here is what I suggest...why don't we all try to help each
other out? We all have that recipe that our family loves. What if
we shared that wonderful recipe and other families were able to love and enjoy
it as much as we do? Or help that seriously tired, over-worked
mom/dad/friend or coworker find a little more peace at the end of the day with
a tasty meal?
Here is the "How-To":
- You are in the post 'Recipe Exchange' which should contain the little blurb above, these instructions and then should be followed by a recipe exchange form
- Type your recipe and it's details into the form below. However, there's a twist...in the description portion of the recipe, please do type your recipe's description, but follow it with your favorite bible verse and, if you have one, a wonderful memory of family members cooking or sharing this recipe with you. Also, it might be helpful to suggest sides, etc...to go with it, as this is somewhat of a struggle for me and possibly others.
- If you would like to add anyone to this exchange, feel free. Just forward either the link to this blog or forward the email that your received to them and have them join in.
- As the recipes come in, I will post the information to the blog in a post where everyone can read and enjoy yummy food, God's word and stories from our families and friends.
Mexican Soup by Becky Norton
ReplyDelete"EASY and delicious soup! I got this recipe from a neighbor and good friend of mine. We love it because it is so easy and everyone likes it!
For the entire law is fulfilled in keeping this one command: ""Love your neighbor as yourself."" Galatians 5:14"
Prep Time: 15 Minutes
Cook TIme: 6 hours in a Crock pot
Ingredients:
1 can corn
1 can black beans
1 small jar salsa (I use mild so my kids will eat it. If you want more heat use medium or hot.)
1 can diced tomatoes
2 cups chicken broth
2 lb chicken (cooked)
Polska Kielbasa
Directions:
Cook chicken in garlic, cumin and onion
Cut/ pull chicken apart
Add all ingredients to crock pot
Cook on low for 6 hours
You can serve this with or without toppings: shredded cheeses, sour cream, chips (tortilla or corn chips) I usually make corn bread (Jiffy box mix is our favorite.) and a salad to go with it.
NOTE: I do not always use exactly 2 lbs of chicken. Also often when I need chicken for a recipe I put frozen chicken breasts in the crock pot the day before and in just a few hours the chicken is cooked and moist then I can easily pull it apart and add to any recipe that night or the next day."
